Downtown group gets new leader

The Red Deer Downtown Business Association has a new executive director.

The Red Deer Downtown Business Association has a new executive director.

The association announced on Monday that Evelyn Storm has been hired to replace Laura Turner.

Turner resigned earlier this year, but has remained with the organization pending the hiring of a new executive director.

A release from the DBA said Storm previously spent four years as executive director of Central Alberta Career Prep, a career development organization.

She’s also done training and consulting work in the public and private sectors, and has instructed in the business program at Red Deer College.

Storm joined the association effective June 6, and has been working with Turner.

“Evelyn’s organizational skills, enthusiasm and knowledge of the downtown are all the qualities we as a board were looking for in our new executive director,” said DBA president Al Gamble.

“I admire the work that has been done by the DBA over the past several years,” said Storm.

“Its role in the development of the Greater Downtown Action Plan, cultivation of new and interesting businesses in the downtown and the building of relationships with key partners is impressive.

Turner, who spent five years as the association’s executive director, said she wanted to devote more time to her family and personal life.

She planned to remain in Red Deer.
