A Blackfalds-based company has been awarded a construction contract at Cenovus Energy Inc.’s Nisku module yard.

Quinn Construction Ltd., the construction affiliate of Quinn Contracting Ltd., said on Tuesday that it will build components of a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) processing facility for Cenovus. The modules will consist of steel structures and process piping.

Quinn is seeking to fill 70 positions for the work, which is scheduled to commence June 18. Ron Lewis, Quinn Construction’s general manager, said ironworkers, scaffolders, pipefitters, welders and crane and equipment operators are among the workers needed. Most of the supervisory and support positions have already been filled, he added.

Quinn has been doing work for Cenovus at its Foster Creek site in northeast Alberta, said Quinn Contracting CEO Michael Kulchisky.

“We’re looking forward to growing with Cenovus as they grow with the increasing demands of the industry, over time,” he said.

Cenovus’s Nisku module yard is located south of Edmonton.
