Red Deer gas costs still lowest

Fuel industry consultant MJ Ervin & Associates / Kent Marketing Services checks the price of regular fuel from coast to coast every Tuesday morning. Since Aug. 24, Red Deer pumps have come in as the lowest every week — including yesterday, when the local price was 90.7 cents a litre.

Windsor, Ont. posted the second-lowest price on Sept. 14, at 92.4 cents. It was followed by Edmonton at 92.8 cents, Lloydminster at 92.9 cents and Calgary at 95.5 cents.

Motorists in Yellowknife were paying the most, at $1.186. The average of the cities surveyed was $1.038.

Over the past four weeks, Red Deer’s price has been lower than all other 59 cities, except on Sept. 7, when it was tied with Edmonton at 86.9 cents.

Prior to its current run of low prices, Red Deer had not had the best numbers among surveyed centres since Jan. 5, when it tied Lloydminster at 89.9 cents.

So far this year, the average gas price in Red Deer has been 91.5 cents. That’s the third-best average of the 60 communities surveyed, with Lloydminster and Edmonton better at 90.3 cents and 90.5 cents respectively.

The Canadian average over this period has been $1.02.
