Tenants of Skyway Professional Centre are expected to begin work on their new premises in January, with the first to open by spring.

Sherry White, project manager for the three-storey building being constructed north of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, said Thursday that work is progressing quickly. Only about 4,000 of the building’s 45,000 square feet remains to be leased, she said.

The latest to commit to the building is Stems Floral Gallery, which currently occupies a bay in a Lancaster strip mall at 2950 22nd St. White said Stems will operate a gift shop and coffee/snack bar, in addition to its floral business. It will have nearly 2,000 square feet.

White said she is also negotiating with a “surgery centre,” that already has locations elsewhere in Western Canada. It’s too early to identify the centre or elaborate on its operations, she said.

Among the other tenants confirmed for Skyway Professional Centre are Oasis Medical Centre, Red Deer’s orthopedic surgeons, CBI Health Group and a podiatrist.

The developer, Skyway Professional Centre Ltd., plans to build another medical-professional building north of Skyway Professional Centre.

The building is located at 5156 43rd St. — the former site of Central Alberta Florists. Stems occupied the old building briefly before moving to its current premises.
