Tim Horton's sizing up Blackfalds

They live in one of the country’s fastest-growing communities, but residents of Blackfalds must still leave town to buy a double-double.

That could soon change.

Tim Hortons is scrutinizing Blackfalds as a potential location for one of its shops, confirmed Alexandra Cygal, public affairs manager with the coffee and donut giant.

Cygal added that she couldn’t disclose further information at this time, but did say that the outlet would be a franchised location rather than a corporate-run store.

Currently, Tim Hortons operates in Central Alberta at Red Deer, Lacombe, Ponoka, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler and Olds.

Statistics Canada’s 2011 census placed Blackfalds’ population at 6,300, up more than 36 per cent from the 2006 census count.

That made the town the 14th fastest-growing community in Canada, and number 6 in Alberta, over that five-year period.
