The Vancouver-based rapper, best known for his video for Up Up Up, which was a smash hit on MuchMusic, performs Saturday at the International Beer Haus and Stage.

SonReal’s public profile began growing with his 18-track mixed tape from 2012, which included the well-received single Words I Said in April, which was featured on some of the hottest hip-hop blogs. This was followed by his acclaimed album Good News.

SonReal signed a recording deal with the independent label Black Box Records, which represents Shad and Classified. His first release with the label was a collaboration with East Coast rapper/producer Rich Kidd called The Closers. It debuted at No. 3 on iTunes hip-hop charts, next to Macklemore and Kanye West, and went on to nab a 2013 Juno Award nomination.

Tickets to the SonReal show are $20 from Ticketfly or the International Beer Haus. (Doors open at 7 p.m.) Call 403-986-5008.
