The Backyardigans are coming to Red Deer on Saturday to perform an out-of-this-world live stage show for pre-schoolers at the Memorial Centre.

Quest for the Extra Ordinary Aliens will see Pablo the Penguin, Tyrone the moose, Uniqua the purple-spotted creature, Tasha the hippo, and Austin the Kangaroo become daring detectives, cookie security guards and space-age reporters in pursuit of a mysterious UFO.

The Koba Entertainment musical stage show, described as a finger-snapping, toe-tapping, mind-boggling adventure, is based on a hugely popular TV series that received an Daytime Emmy Award nomination for best animated children’s show.

Roots artist to play selections from her her latest album

Award-winning Nova Scotia roots artist Kim Wempe will be performing this weekend in her old stomping grounds.

The former Red Deer College music student will play selections from her latest album, Painting With Tides, at a 2 to 5 p.m. house concert on Sunday in Red Deer.

Wempe has collaborated with artists such as Joel Plaskett to create “chill-inducing” folk songs. For her talents, she was awarded with an East Coast Music Award and Galaxie Prize for rising star recording of the year.

F-Holes to blend country Dixieland, Manitoba roots music at The Hideout

No the F-Holes are not a punk, grunge or heavy-metal band.

Contrary to the in-your-face moniker, the band that performs on Friday at The Hideout in Gasoline Alley south of Red Deer, blends country, Dixieland and Manitoba roots music, earning rave reviews for its vintage-inspired sound and passionate performances.

The F-Holes formed in Winnipeg in 2004 and are touring Ontario and Western Canada to promote the group’s second album, Angel in the Corner.
