Rapunzel of the golden tresses will take centre stage on Friday, when the next Cornerstone Youth Theatre production opens in Red Deer.

Rapunzel: A Knotty Tale tells the story of a beautiful princess who’s kept locked in a tower by an evil enchantress. Even though she’s isolated, “Rapunzel knows that she has been created for better things! With the help of her flying friends and a group of unscrupulous hoodlums, Rapunzel escapes and makes her way back to her parents, the King and Queen.”

Will the Gypsy Prince be part of her happy ever after? You’ll have to see Cornerstone Youth Theatre’s classic tale of honesty, hope and love to find out.

The production at the First Church of the Nazarene, at 2 McVicar St., features a large cast of singing and dancing hoodlums, as well as witches, royalty, citizens and, of course, the golden-haired Rapunzel.

The show runs for 11 performances on May 31, June 1, 7, 8 and 9.

Pre-booked tickets are $12, or $14 at the door ($11 seniors/$10 children age 2 to 12/$10 groups or discount matinees). School field trips are also available.
