The Innisfail financial adviser who is charged with first-degree murder is no longer behind bars.

Brian Malley, 55, was released on $10,000 cash bail after appearing in an Edmonton courthouse on Thursday. Details of the bail hearing are protected under a publication ban.

Malley is charged in the bombing death of Victoria Shachtay, 23, who died in November 2011.

He also faces charges of causing an explosion of an explosive substance likely to cause serious bodily harm, death or serious damage to property and sending or delivering to a person an explosive device.

Malley was looking after Shachtay’s investments that stemmed from a 2004 car accident that confined Shachtay to a wheelchair.

Malley, who worked for Assante Wealth Management until he was terminated after his arrest, is under investigation by Canada’s security regulator.

He also worked as a police officer for a municipal force in Alberta about 30 years ago.
