An Alix man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail after being convicted of sexual assault.

An Alix man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail after being convicted of sexual assault.

Ian Thomas Sheppard, 30, was sentenced in Stettler provincial court on Friday.

Police earlier alleged that Sheppard was involved in a pair of sexual assaults that occurred in late 2007 and early 2008. Police would release no further information on the assaults.

Sheppard was arrested by Guelph Police in that Ontario city in February. He had been living and working in that community and was believed to have fled Alberta in the summer of 2008.
