The Mounties always get their man, even when he hides in a hay stack.

A 20-year-old Calgary man was arrested Friday after a stolen Jeep was spotted driving into a ditch on Highway 587, about two miles west of Bowden.

Police believed the suspect may have been carrying a firearm.

RCMP officers and two Alberta sheriffs spotted footprints in the snow leading away from the Jeep. Police dog services was contacted, but was unavailable to attend, so police contained the area and conducted a foot search.

After about an hour, the male suspect was found hiding under a hay stack in a barn approximately two miles northwest of Bowden.

The man was arrested without incident and no firearm was found.

The accused was released from custody and will appear Feb. 3 in Didsbury provincial court on a charge of possession of stolen property.
