Registered nurse Debra Pavelich monitors Red Deer City RCMP Insp. Karen Simon as she participates in the Sirens of Life Blood Donor Challenge at the Golden Circle on Tuesday. Through January, the RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services are competing to see which can bring in the most units of blood. During the 2010 challenge, the RCMP came out on top but fire-medics intend to reverse the results this year. Anyone donating blood in January can register to have their donation counted for the RCMP or Emergency Services. Until Jan. 16, Canadian Blood Services will work out of the Golden Circle while their 68th Street premises are expanded. The clinic at the Golden Circle will run on Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Next week, it will run from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
