Red Deer City RCMP have arrested a suspect in two armed robberies that occurred at Westpark Fas Gas early Monday.

Red Deer City RCMP have arrested a suspect in two armed robberies that occurred at Westpark Fas Gas early Monday.

On Thursday, police had identified a suspect and were in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant.

However, at 3:30 a.m. Friday, while on routine patrol, city RCMP attempted to stop a grey 1988 Chevrolet Caprice that was travelling at a low rate of speed in the 5100 block of 67th Street.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for RCMP initially and once the vehicle did stop, he fled, RCMP said.

The driver was located a short time later and apprehended by the police dog team. He was identified as the suspect in the two armed robberies on Monday and arrested.

The suspect remains in custody at this time and is facing a number of charges. Police have not released the details of those charges or the suspect’s identity.

One of the Fas Gas robberies occurred at about 12:40 a.m. and the just three hours later at about 3:45 p.m.

RCMP continue to investigate if there is any connection between these two armed robberies and the armed robberies at the Eastview Express 24 and

Canadian Tire Gas Bar, both on Wednesday.
