How to handle the huge life changes that come when a baby enters the fray is the focus of a workshop to be held on Feb. 8 and 9 in Red Deer.

The Bringing Baby Home workshop is being run through Shalom Counselling Centre. Developed by relationship counselling pioneer John Gottman, and run by a certified instructor, the workshop is designed for couples to help them during the transition from “anticipation and excitement” to “tiredness and irritability.”

Not only focusing on taking care of the baby, the workshop is to also teach couples how they can take care of each other and maintain a close, supportive relationship upon a young one entering the picture.

A study by the Gottman Institute suggests that more than half of all mothers and 30 per cent of fathers display symptoms of postpartum depression. It also suggests hostility increases between partners and happiness declines.

The cost to attend the workshop is $250 per couple. Enrolment is limited.
