Bachusky wins 'Worst Handyman' title

A seasoned Red Deer newsman has hammered his way, albeit none too well, into national TV stardom.

A seasoned Red Deer newsman has hammered his way, albeit none too well, into national TV stardom.

Red Deer Express writer Johnnie Bachusky was named Canada’s Worst Handyman 4 on Monday night.

The self-described “lousy” home renovator was nominated by his wife Darlis because of his total fear of directions.

As a result, his wife has had to do everything in the house.

He was one of five participants chosen from across the country to compete in the reality TV program which has been airing on the Discovery Channel.

All of them headed to the boonies to renovate a 100-year-old country lodge near Huntsville in the Muskokas.

They were then responsible for attempting for fixing up a bedroom equipped with an ensuite three-piece bathroom into a children’s retreat.

Demolishing walls proved to be tough for these misfits.

The nation’s most abysmal handymen also flew by the seat of their pants when they tried making their own wooden toilet seats.

Bachusky celebrated his win in front of family and friends at Boston Pizza on Red Deer’s south end.
