A 73-year-old male cyclist from Bashaw has died after being struck while riding on Hwy 53, one km outside of the town.
Sgt. Geoff Buxcey from the Bashaw RCMP said it appears that the man was heading eastward at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday when he veered into the centre of the highway and collided with the side of an eastbound vehicle.
The vehicle driver was unable to avoid striking the bicycle, said Buxcey.
The victim was not wearing a helmet, he said.
Police do not plan to lay charges in relation to the collision. The name of the victim is not being released, said Buxcey.
