Murray Mackay works on yet another birdhouse in his shop in Ponoka Tuesday. Over the years, the avid birder has made thousands of houses from recycled wood with proceeds going to the Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital and Doctors Without Borders. He’s now added the Alzheimer Society’s Red Deer and Central Alberta Chapter to his list. The houses sell for $20 each and are available by calling Mackay at (403) 783-4310. The sales will help boost the society’s fundraising which continues in a big way Saturday with its first annual Making Sweet Memories Gala Dinner for Research, an event featuring celebrity waiters and a silent auction. Tickets are $75 each – $35 of which is tax deductible – and are available by calling (403) 346-2540 or emailing dgrasdal@alzheimer.ab.ca.
