Blackfalds residents found out this weekend their community wouldn’t be one of the top five battling it out for the title of Hockeyville this year.

Earlier this month the community was named as one of the top 12 communities in the Kraft Hockeyville 2010 contest. The competition pits Canadian communities against one another to see who has the most community spirit and passion for hockey, with the winning community receiving $100,000 for upgrades to their local arena.

It was announced on Saturday night that the five remaining communities in the running are Cranbrook, B.C., The J.L Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario, the Stanstead College Arena in Stanstead, Quebec, the Lawrencetown Exhibition Youth Arena in Lawrencetown, N.S., and the Pat O’Reilly Memorial Stadium in Bishop’s Falls in Newfoundland.

People can vote for the remaining teams by going to www.cbcsports.ca/hockeyville, text the word vote and the community name to 111888 or call toll-free 1-866-533-8066 and follow the voice prompts. Voting will continue until March 31.
