Blackfalds new RCMP station to house five more officers

Not only will the Town of Blackfalds see a new RCMP station operating next spring, there will be five more officers to help police the area.

A letter from federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews’ office to Blackfalds Mayor Melodie Stol indicates that the new officers could be in place next April.

That’s also when work on the new 20,000-square-foot RCMP building near Hwy 2 is expected to be finished.

The building will also be home to the town’s fire department.

General duty officers now stationed in the Red Deer Rural subdivision office will be relocated.

Central Alberta’s central telecommunications department and rural RCMP general investigative officers, including a drug section, will remain in Red Deer at the 42nd Avenue and 58th Street subdivision.

Stol said “getting this number now, that’s really nice to see.”

She also said building construction is on schedule.
