Police in Rocky Mountain House are investigating for a link between reports of a teenager missing from Eckville and the discovery of a body northeast of Rocky.

In a statement released on Monday, Cpl. Shawna Lozinski of the Rocky RCMP said officer in Sylvan Lake were notified at about noon on Sunday that a 16-year-old boy had gone missing from Eckville.

Police dogs searched areas where the boy may have been seen but were unable to find him.

Lozinski said a police searchers, including a helicopter unit, located a body at the junction of Hwys 12 and 761, about nine km north of Leslieville, at 9:10 Monday morning. The site is 35 km northwest of Eckville town limits.

Police with the RCMP Red Deer major crime and forensic units are investigating to determine whether the body is that of the missing youth.
