A Bowden inmate recaptured after escaping the prison’s minimum-security annex last week made his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Monday.

A Bowden inmate recaptured after escaping the prison’s minimum-security annex last week made his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Monday.

Dean McClelland, 46, was captured in Calgary on Saturday, two days after he is alleged to have walked away from the annex at Bowden Institution.

He is now being held in Red Deer Remand Centre on a charge of escaping lawful custody.

McClelland is to return to court on Tuesday to enter a plea.
