Innisfail RCMP are investigating the stabbing of an inmate at Bowden Institution on Monday night.
Police say at about 9:30 p.m., a male inmate at the prison was confronted and attacked by several other inmates.
After he was stabbed with a weapon and fell to the ground, he was kicked, punched and stabbed several times.
After the attackers fled the scene, the victim managed to walk to a security point in the prison to seek medical assistance.
He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was admitted for treatment.
Police are not releasing names pending the completion of their investigation.
Bowden is a minimum and medium security prison housing about 650 inmates.
