A pot left on a stove is believed to have caused a house fire in Bower Friday morning.

A pot left on a stove is believed to have caused a house fire in Bower Friday morning.

Red Deer Emergency Services got the call at 8:14 a.m. and when they arrived the kitchen was in flames at the home at Broughton Crescent.

“The kitchen was fully involved,” said platoon chief Jeff Lunder.

Fire-medics quickly brought the fire under control but there was extensive damage to the kitchen. A damage estimate was not yet available.

A woman was home at the time, but she was not injured.

“We were expecting to take her to the hospital with smoke inhalation but she says she doesn’t want to go,” said Lunder at the scene.

A fire investigator was expected to arrive later in the morning to confirm the cause of the blaze.

Two pumpers, a Bronto aerial truck, a pair of ambulances and a command vehicle responded to the fire with 17 fire-medics.
