Recently elected Conservative Party of Canada Member of Parliament for Red Deer, Burton Bailey, was officially sworn in on May 17.
Canadians elected 117 new MPs, including Bailey, on April 28, about one-third of the total number of 343.
"It is a tremendous honour to be officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for the newly established riding of Red Deer," said Bailey in a statement over the weekend.
“As I take on this responsibility, I reflect on the legacy of public service left by those who came before me. I am committed to carrying that tradition forward – serving the people of Red Deer and those in the surrounding areas with honour, integrity, and dedication.
“This is a challenging time for many individuals and families across our region. From concerns about affordability to economic uncertainty, I recognize the pressures people are facing. I look forward to representing the people of this riding and supporting them through these times with compassion, advocacy, and action."
Canada's 45th Parliament is scheduled to resume on May 26. The Speech from the Throne, made by King Charles, which traditionally outlines the government's priorities, will be read on May 27.
“Through the duration of the 45th Parliament, I will speak up passionately on behalf of our communities. I will work to ensure your voices, concerns, and ideas are heard in Ottawa and understood across Canada. As I meet with residents, listen to your experiences, and collaborate with local leaders, I am focused on helping our region grow and thrive – now and for generations to come," Bailey said in his statement.
“I appreciate your support. It is a privilege to serve you, and I look forward to working together to build a stronger future for Red Deer.”
Bailey takes over as the representative for the riding from Earl Dreeshen, who was first elected as MP in 2008, serving as MP for the Red Deer riding until the boundaries were redrawn to a new riding called Red Deer - Mountain View, and he continued to represent it in 2015 and 2019. Dreeshen stepped down this year and Bailey won the by-election.
Bailey won the riding with 44,239 votes or 71.6 per cent of the vote share.
