Businessman to seek seat on city council

A downtown businessman well known for his work in the community will run for the first time for Red Deer city council this fall.

Paul Harris, co-owner with Terry Warke of the Sunworks store on Ross Street, says he now feels he has the time to devote to an elected position that he has been thinking about for many years.

“Now that things are settling down, I just feel that I have more capacity,” says Harris, 47.

Harris volunteers in a number of capacities, including eight years on the board of the Red Deer and District Community Foundation, which he now chairs.

He played an active role in the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness and is stalwart promoter of arts and culture.

His goals on council involve finding ways to accomplish projects rather than looking for obstacles.

Municipal elections take place throughout Alberta on Oct. 18.
