Phlobotomist Leighann Lowrie takes a hemoglobin reading from first time donor Zachary Billetski as in background Elizabeth Van Slyke, centre, a 177-time donor, and Kara Porttin hold the ribbon for cutting to rededicate the renovated Canadian Blood Services office Thursday. Ian Mumford, centre, left, the organization’s chief operating officer, said the renovated Red Deer office located at #5, 5020 68th St. will serve as a model for all satellite branches nationally. The $420,000 expansion features more space, a new screening room and plenty of natural light. Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 2 – 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Walk-ins are always welcome though donors can also call 1-888-2Donate (1-888-236-6283) for appointments. The office is hoping to attract about 1,100 new donors this year to meet its target of just over 11,000 donations.
