A candlelight vigil will be held in memory of Master Cpl. Byron Greff.

Central Albertans are invited to the ceremony on Friday from 7-10 p.m. at Lest We Forget Park in the Lacombe Memorial Centre Gardens.

People can show their support with flowers, letters, cards or donations to his family if they wish.

Greff, an Edmonton-based soldier who grew up in the Lacombe area, died last Saturday in Kabul, Afghanistan.

He was on a routine trip between training and headquarters bases when a car packed with explosives rammed into a heavily armoured NATO bus known as a Rhino. It had been escorted by two heavily-armed patrol vehicles.

Five NATO soldiers, eight civilian contractors and four Afghans were killed in the blast, and scores of others were wounded.
