A pair of concerts will serve as a platform to showcase for young musicians in Central Alberta.

The Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra (CACO) is set to present CACO Goes To The Movies concerts, featuring a blend of beloved film scores and the debut of young musical talent through its internship program.

Performances will take place on Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Red Deer and on Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at the Ponoka United Church.

Building on the success of its inaugural year, CACO's internship program continued to provide high school musicians from across Central Alberta with an opportunity to perform alongside seasoned professionals. The number of interns accepted has more than doubled.

These students, selected through an audition process, receive personalized coaching and mentorship from members of CACO.

This season's cohort includes Tylan Bushell, a Grade 9 tuba player from Notre Dame High School in Red Deer and resident of Innisfail. Not only will Bushell perform with the orchestra, but he will also see his original composition, Beyond Dissonance, premiered at these concerts.

"We are incredibly proud to support and nurture the musical growth of these young instrumentalists," says James Bicigo, CACO artistic director.

"This program offers them a real-world performance experience and valuable guidance that will undoubtedly shape their musical journeys."

Those attending CACO Goes To The Movies can look forward to a program featuring music from the silver screen, including The Godfather SuiteSilveradoMisty Mountain Cold from Lord of the Rings, Willy Wonka, themes from James Bond, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as selections from the realm of video game music.

In a media release, CACO states it "aims to inspire the next generation of musicians and strengthen its connection with the community."

Tickets for the Red Deer concert can be purchased on eventbrite.ca. Tickets for the Ponoka concert are available through the Ponoka United Church.
