Charges of attempted murder for two people arrested after nightclub shooting

Red Deer City RCMP were called to a complaint of a shooting at the Gent’s Club on the 4600 Block of 50th Avenue in Red Deer at about 2 a.m.

RCMP allege that after employees removed a man and woman from the club, the man went out to a vehicle, retrieved a gun and went back to the club and fired shots into the door.

A 41-year-old male nightclub employee was shot an undisclosed number of times and a bystander was grazed by a bullet. The employee is in Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. The bystander did not seek medical attention.

The suspects fled before police arrived.

The investigation led investigators to a residence in Sylvan Lake where the Emergency Response Team assisted in the arrest late Thursday morning of a man and woman, both of Sylvan Lake. Police also seized a stolen handgun, marijuana, cocaine and money at the residence.

Hamsa Ibrahim, 26, of Sylvan Lake has been charged with: one count of attempt murder; two counts of discharge of a weapon with intent to endanger life; one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking; one count of possession of an illegal drugs; one count of possession of proceeds of crime; one count of possessing a firearm while prohibited; and one count of possessing a firearm without a licence.

Yolanda Cuthand, 18, of Sylvan Lake has been charged with: one count of attempt murder; two counts of discharge of a weapon with intent to endanger life; one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking; one count of possession of illegal drugs; and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.

Both are to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Friday afternoon.
