Red Deerians have options when it comes to recycling their live Christmas trees.

Residents can drop off undecorated trees at 11 neighbourhood locations where the city's Parks and Public Works department will pick them up. Trees will be made into mulch to be used in local parks and trail spaces.

Or a donation can be made to Red Deer Firefighters Children's Charity for firefighters to collect them from residential yards on Jan. 16.

For pickup, visit Red Deer Firefighters Children's Charity on Facebook or reddeerfirefighterschildrenscharity.com and click on the Christmas Tree Pickup link. In the message portion of the donation form, provide the address of the tree, and take the tree outside and place it in front of the home.

The firefighters' charity assists local families by purchasing medical and specialty equipment for children, supports programs like school lunch programs, and collaborates with other nonprofits to help reach families in need.

Residents who want to take their trees to one of the city's drop-off sites, there are 11 neighbourhood locations.

Sites include:

• Clearview Ridge: Recreation site off of Carrington Drive, northwest corner of park.

• Davenport: Recreation site off of Dempsey Street.

• Eastview Estates: Recreation site off of Ellenwood Drive.

• Vanier: East side of Viscount Drive, by AltaLink powerline.

• Ironstone: Ironstone recreation site, off of Inglewood Drive.

• Bower: East side of Barrett Drive under AltaLink powerline.

• Recreation Centre South Parking Lot: Northeast corner.

A map of the drop-off sites can be found at reddeer.ca.
