The contributions of community groups active in arts, culture, sports and recreation that received municipal grants in 2023 were recognized during the city's Community Investment Day on Sept. 19.

Previously known as Agency Day, community development superintendent Bobby-Jo Stannard said the event was rebranded to showcase the tangible outcomes resulting from council's investments in the community, while also honouring the contributions of community partners in achieving these outcomes.

She said instead of the groups speaking before council, now city administration makes a presentation on their behalf to provide consistent information on each group and celebrate the change the investment made on a broader perspective across the organization.

"It was a real celebration of Red Deerians and our ability to work together collaboratively for the betterment of all in our community," Stannard said.

"It was an excellent opportunity to see the very best that Red Deer has to offer in terms of community commitment and volunteerism."

The community groups were invited to the presentation and council had the opportunity to ask members questions, followed by a meet and greet with attendees.

In April, a presentation was made to council about groups involved in social development, economic development and environmental initiatives that received grants.
