The Barrett Park bridge and surrounding trail located south of the Parkvale neighbourhood will be closed to pedestrians as the bridge will be replaced beginning Monday.

Users of the paved trail north of Waskasoo Creek will be detoured through the Parkvale neighbourhood, the City of Red Deer noted in a media release on Friday.

The nature trail and staircase south of the creek will be closed with no detour in place. These closures will be in place until approximately the end of May.

“The existing bridge has reached the end of its design life and is experiencing structural deterioration,” the city said.

“To maintain public safety and trail continuity, the bridge is being replaced. Those in the area are reminded to obey directional signage and give crews room to complete their work.”
