City of Red Deer shares contingency plan for Canada Post Lockout

Following the announcement that Canada Post has locked out the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) as of June 15, the City of Red Deer has developed a plan to help direct residents on how to make payments for utility bills and property taxes.

During the duration of the lockout. The city encourages residents to use any of these alternate payment options:


Utilities Bills

Utility Bills are still due on the specified due date and late payments are subject to penalties even though there is a disruption in mail delivery service.

Alternate payment methods:

• Through preauthorized withdrawal

• At your bank

• Online Banking

• Telephone Banking

• At City Hall between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

• Credit Card


Property taxes

Property Taxes are due on June 30, 2011 and late payments are subject to penalties even through a disruption in mail delivery service.

Alternate payment methods:

• Tax installment Plan (TIP): please enroll by June 15 to avoid penalties

Internet or telephone banking

• At City Hall between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (please have your notice with you)

• At your bank (please have your notice with you)

• The after hours drop boxes at both entrance doors to City Hall


Drop-off boxes

The City will be setting up drop box locations and only collecting mail addressed to The City of Red Deer at the following locations:

• City Hall

• G.H. Dawe Centre

• Collicutt Centre

• Michener Centre

• the Recreation Centre


We will continue to monitor the Canada Post situation and set up other measures that we will communicate to you if the lockout continues. The City of Red Deer is committed to delivering the best customer service during this circumstance. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that the City receives payments by the specified due date to avoid penalties.
