City to plow residential streets

Red Deer residential streets are going to be cleared of snow and ice.

Red Deer residential streets are going to be cleared of snow and ice.

The City of Red Deer announced Friday afternoon that it will begin snow plowing on Monday.

The city expects the job to take about 20 days to clear 225 kilometres of streets. Snow will be plowed into windrows on either the north or east side of roads.

City crews will take care not to obstruct driveways as a result of plowing but some street parking will be reduced because of the windrows.

“We have had a higher than normal snowfall so far compared to the last few years in Red Deer,” Public Works Manager Greg Sikora said.

“We are beginning to plow snow on residential streets to ensure roads stay passable and remain in good driving conditions for residents.”

It will better position the city to handle further snowfalls and prepare for the spring melt, the city said.

The city will post signs indicating when parking is restricted on residential roads. Vehicles left on the roads where signs are posted will be ticketed and towed.
