Clearing a dangerous jam

Workers in a crane-suspended basket lower grappling hooks Tuesday so a second crane can lift trees from the logjam that has formed beneath the Gaetz Avenue bridge. High Red Deer River levels collected floating logs and branches beneath the bridge’s piers, creating a safety hazard and forcing closure of the busy road so the cranes had enough room to work safely.

North end traffic is expected to continue to be disrupted today with major waits at the Taylor Drive bridge as motorists seek a way around the closure.
