Court proceedings have been adjourned until late March for a federal inmate accused of kidnapping and assaulting a corrections officer, stealing the van she had been driving and escaping custody.

Donald Junior Fowler, 32, appeared briefly in Red Deer provincial court via close-circuit TV from Red Deer Remand Centre on Friday morning.

Defence counsel Michael Scrase sought an adjournment so he and the Crown could meet to discuss the charges against Fowler, who is serving time in a federal prison.

Charges stem from a series of incidents alleged to have occurred in mid-October, when the corrections officer was escorting Fowler, who was serving in Drumheller, on a supervised visit with family at Buck Lake.

Fowler is to return to court on March 30.
