CPKC Holiday Train reaches Central Alberta on Dec. 11

Train to stop in 7 local communities

The 2024 CPKC Holiday Train will arrive in Central Alberta on Dec. 11 to raise money and food for local food banks.

At each stop, the Canadian reggae fusion band Magic!, and Portuguese Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sofia Camara, will play a free concert from the train’s brightly decorated stage.

The railway network CPKC, a combination of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, and will make a donation to the local food bank at each stop and will also encourage attendees to donate.

"We are pleased to again send this magical train on a four-week trip across our network spreading holiday joy as we collect food and raise money to fight food insecurity. We look forward to seeing all the smiles and cheers from people young and old coming together in the spirit of giving," said Keith Creel, CPKC president and CEO, in a statement. 

This year, the Holiday Train will tour Canada and the United States from Nov. 21 to Dec. 20, and the train will stop in Central Alberta at the following locations:

• Dec. 11 in Blackfalds, from 1 to 1:30 p.m., at Broadway Avenue & East Avenue. 

• Dec. 11 in Lacombe, from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m., at Leh Thompson Fish Pond.

• Dec. 11 in Ponoka, from 4 to 4:30 p.m., at 50 Street and 47 Avenue.

• Dec. 11 in Wetaskiwin, from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m., at CPKC ES Building - 4009 50 St.

• Dec. 13 in Innisfail, from 12:55 to 1:35 p.m., at 50 Street.

• Dec. 13 in Olds, from 2:30 to 3 p.m., at 50 Street.

• Dec. 13 in Didsbury, from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m., at 20 Street and 18 Avenue.

Since 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than $24.3 million and more than 5.3 million pounds of food for community food banks across North America.
