At least 10 rail cars derailed near Alix today. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada sent a team to the accident east of Red Deer at Alix Junction.
The train was about 3,350 metres long and weighed roughly 11,000 tonnes.
So far, 10 cars have been reported derailed. Three locomotives were at the head of the train.
Investigators will try to determine if length or weight of the train played a role in the accident.
“This is all the information we have at this time,” said a release from the safety board.
