Drivers of both vehicles have been hospitalized after a crash that closed Hwy 11 south of Eckville for about three hours on Wednesday night.

Sylvan Lake RCMP say a 50-year-old woman was heading west on Hwy 11 and preparing to turn south onto Hwy 766 when her SUV collided with an eastbound car driven by a 25-year-old man at about 8:45 p.m.

A number of passing motorists stopped to assist while waiting for police and ambulances.

Both drivers were taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, said Cpl. Mike Calihoo in a statement released on Thursday.

The male driver of the eastbound car was transferred from Red Deer to a Calgary hospital for further treatment, said Calihoo.

The collision remains under investigation.
