Twenty Red Deer schools that participated in the annual school battery collection drive turned in their low-voltage collections to the Kerry Wood Nature centre Thursday, Earth Day, for a weigh-off. Last year’s winner, Maryview School, provided some help, left to right, Ty Moline, lee Madsen and Chantal De Castro, with sorting. Annie L. Gaetz Elementary school was declared the winner with total of 957 lbs., and for their efforts the school will have the nature centre’s portable planetarium set up in their gym for a week. In total 3989 lbs. of batteries were collected.
