An extreme cold warning will be in effect starting 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue into Wednesday morning for Red Deer.
Environment and Climate Change Canada said extremely cold wind chill values near -40 C were expected which puts everyone at risk.
Wind chill values will moderate through daytime hours, but extremely cold wind chill values could return overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning for parts of Alberta.
Extreme cold risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
People should cover up when outside. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
And if it’s too cold for people to stay outside, it’s too cold for pets to stay outside.
