Firefighters raise thousands through sales of calendar

Red Deer proved once again that it loves a person in uniform.

Red Deer proved once again that it loves a person in uniform.

The Red Deer County firefighters raised more than $7,000 with sales of their 2011 calendar, which featured portraits of local firefighters and sold for $20 each.

“Thanks to everyone who purchased a calendar — these local groups will benefit,” said Tom Metzger, assistant fire chief and fire prevention officer, Red Deer County.

The proceeds were divided evenly between six local charities (Red Deer Family Services, the Lending Cupboard, War Amps, Ronald McDonald House, Central Alberta Women’s Shelter, Red Deer Cancer Society) and the first three charities received a visit from the firefighters to drop off the cheques, last Saturday.

If you’d like to see the remaining cheque presentations this Saturday, you can visit the following locations: Ronald McDonald House at 10 a.m., Red Deer Women’s Shelter at noon, and Red Deer Cancer Society at 2 p.m.
