Glass, ceramic and fibre artworks will be featured during the First Friday of September Red Deer gallery openings.
Common Threads, an exhibit of fibre artworks from the In-Definite Arts Society artists from Calgary is on Friday at the Kiwanis Gallery. It’s run by the Red Deer Arts Council and located downstairs in the Red Deer Public Library.
The exhibit will be on until Oct. 19, but a First Friday reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. with refreshments and some of the artists in attendance. The In-Definite Arts Society includes artists with developmental disabilities who create, exhibit and sell their artworks.
The Viewpoint Gallery in the City of Red Deer’s Culture Services Centre is showing a variety of works by local artists until Oct. 30, including glass by Darren Petersen, and ceramics by Brian McArthur. Pieces by Red Deer-area artists Dawn Candy and Sally Smith are also featured in the exhibit.
The gallery at 3827 39th St. is open until 6:30 p.m. on First Friday.
Mixed-media sculptures by Emily Neufeld will be shown in the In Place exhibit at the Harris-Warke Gallery, upstairs in the Sunworks store on Ross Street.
The exhibit of abstract sculptures is on until Oct. 18, but a First Friday reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
An exhibit that links two branches of art will continue to be shown at The Hub on Ross Street. Albertan Landscapes, with visual art by Elena Rousseau and literary contributions from various members from Writers’ Ink, will run to Sept. 30.
No First Friday reception will be held but the gallery is open to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Other original art can be seen around the city, including works by Brian Usher at the Velvet Olive, pieces by Harvey Brink at Cafe Pichilingue and the Snap Shots exhibit by Sasha Grinnell in the Corridor Gallery, downstairs at the Red Deer Recreation Centre.
