Spring flooding from Piper Creek has temporarily closed access into Rotary Park in Red Deer.

City of Red Deer public works crews have barricaded off 43rd Street, between 48th and 49th Avenues. Motorists are asked to detour via 45th Street.

The flooded street behind Red Deer Lodge could be opened later today if city crews can remove enough ice from culverts to allow flood waters to drain into the sewer system.

“We’re trying to open it up,” said Stephen Wright, roads superintendent with the city. Meanwhile, the Rotary Park access is closed to motorists until flooding recedes.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in construction areas and obey signs. For more information, go on-line to www.reddeer.ca/roadclosures.
