The appeal of a six-year sentence handed to a former Sylvan Lake man convicted of child pornography will go before Alberta Court of Appeal judges in Calgary today.
Andrew John Tettersell, 34, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court last Sept. 7. He earlier pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a young boy and three other related charges of accessing, producing and making available child pornography.
The Crown prosecutor had asked for a sentence of eight to 10 years and launched an appeal to argue for a lengthier prison term.
Tettersell was busted in an international child pornography sting in November 2010.
He was one of 57 men charged in Canada, the U.S. and Europe after a child pornography investigation that involved 13 Canadian police services, as well as international police forces, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Police found almost 40,000 pictures and 3,100 videos of young boys when Tettersell was arrested.
