Freezing rain led to dangerous road conditions for Central Alberta drivers over the weekend.

Alberta RCMP issued a media release late on Friday, Jan. 10 stating that freezing rain had caused "many collisions" and poor driving collisions in several locations throughout Central and Northern Alberta.

"Motorists are asked to avoid travel and ensure they check Alberta 511 for the most up-to-date highway conditions and plan accordingly," police said in the media release.

Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued a freezing rain advisory for Central Alberta. That advisory was lifted early on Sunday, Jan. 12.
