The Gasoline Alley Farmers' Market will offer a new weekly outdoor market all summer.

The outdoor summer market will be held in the Gasoline Alley Farmers' Market parking lot every Friday until Sept. 19. The first outdoor market of the year was Friday, May 16.

"We wanted to add an opportunity for more vendors," said Shauna Fisher, Gasoline Alley Farmers' Market general manager.

"It will add a bit more variety, especially for people who are making (their own products) that have some time on Friday mornings. ... Our market is open year-round and we're filled with vendors from Central Alberta. The outdoor market adds a little bit extra to the indoor market. It's provides some entertainment and fun."

The outdoor market runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each week and will feature a variety of vendors, as well as live music.

"Every week, things will change up a little bit. Sometimes we'll have indoor vendors going outside for the outdoor market," Fisher said, adding the market offers "a fun atmosphere" between the vendors and live music.

"The reception has been really good so far. We have some great vendors coming in the weeks ahead. The outdoor market is very limited right now — it'll only have 22 vendors total."

Fisher said she expects the outdoor market to be a permanent fixture for the summers ahead.

This November the year-round market will celebrate its fifth anniversary.

"Since we opened, we've seen lots of movement around the market," Fisher said.

"We had some vendors who started with us who became very big and moved out. There are a lot of vendors who have gone on to do their own thing elsewhere. ... Some of our vendors who are still here have gone from very small booths to very big booths. There's been a lot of growth here over the five years."
