Gasoline Alley gets buses

Bus service to Gasoline Alley and Springbrook from Red Deer will launch in late August, says City of Red Deer transit manager Kevin Joll.

Bus service to Gasoline Alley and Springbrook from Red Deer will launch in late August, says City of Red Deer transit manager Kevin Joll.

The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County have teamed up to offer the transit service so people can get to the busy highway commercial area for work or for shopping. Riders will also be able to travel to the hamlet near Red Deer Regional Airport.

Joll said the new service is lagging by a couple weeks due to the legwork involved in getting the buses going.

“It’s a big deal,” he said. “We’ve got to get the buses in place and the staff. We hope to have it launched before school starts.”

Red Deer Transit anticipates running the service from Bower Place Shopping Centre to Gasoline Alley from around 6:25 a.m. until early evening Monday through Wednesday. It will run until late evening Thursday through Saturday. It will run through the day on Sunday.

Buses will also run to Springbrook during morning and afternoon rush hour periods.

Red Deer County is billed for the service.

Exact times and schedules will be made public before the service begins.
