The passing of Andrew Dale has left those who knew him shocked and deeply saddened. The executive director of the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre died in his sleep on March 5 at the age of 50.

“He was a very warm and jovial person, he knew how to get people to relax, but he was also a great business person,” said George Ayers, colleague and friend of Dale’s.

Dale was very passionate about helping seniors and he brought that enthusiasm to the Golden Circle during the eight years he spent there as executive director, Ayers said.

“He was fully committed to serving the senior population of Red Deer. ... He made sure to establish a staff of caring individuals who were as passionate as he was.”

The community’s response to Dale’s death has been overwhelming.

“I don’t think anyone really knew how serious his illness was, and a lot of people just can’t believe it’s happened,” Ayers said.

To deal with the outpouring of grief and to honour Dale’s life, Ayers said there will be a tea service at the Golden Circle on Saturday afternoon.

“We wanted something casual, because that’s the kind of guy he was, and hopefully it will give people a chance to talk with each other and share their memories and stories of Andrew,” Ayers said.

The tea service is open to the public and takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Golden Circle (4620 47A Ave.).
