Central Albertans who have set health and wellness goals in 2024 should have one upcoming Red Deer event circled on their calendar.

The 14th annual Healthy Living Expo is set to return to Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27.

“The goal of the event is to bring local vendors, businesses, gyms and health-care professionals together,” said Rayna Heinzlmeir, the expo’s directing manager.

“People can come and interact, and ask questions they might have to the professionals and businesses there. It definitely supports local.

“We focus on all realms of health and wellness. It’s a really neat interactive opportunity where you can ask questions in a non-threatening environment. It’s also a neat chance to get to know local stores that you may not interact with on a daily basis. It’s a good opportunity to find out what’s out there.”

Heinzlmeir said the Healthy Living Expo is a great place for people who made a New Year’s resolution to be healthier.

“We usually put this on a few weeks into the year, so there are people who maybe haven’t been able to follow through on that resolution, and maybe they might need a bit of a push,” said Heinzlmeir.

“Maybe those people just haven’t been comfortable walking into that gym to see what it’s all about. Now they have an opportunity to come see them and have a one-on-one conversation.”

There will be about 90 vendors at this year’s expo.

“We have a core staple of vendors that are there – they like to be there and get a great response from people in our community,” said Heinzlmeir.

“We also have new vendors each and every year. We like to keep things new and fresh. We like to see what’s innovative in health and wellness. We’ve definitely seen a growth in attendance over the years as well – people like to come check out what’s there to shop and see the market area.”

This year will also feature a kids’ zone with interactive activities provided by the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

There will be interactive demonstrations throughout the day as well. For a full demonstration schedule, as well as other additional information on the Healthy Living Expo, visit www.theexpo.ca.
